On October 31, many houses in our neighborhood are lit, maybe more than any other time of the year. It feels quite friendly with all the light and all the people traversing the sidewalks and the street. Most residents simply turn on their porch light as an invitation for trick-or-treaters. Some also add festive lawn ornaments, as did these folk with their jack-o-lanterns.
