The branches of the willow tree dangle a few inches above the lake. The image reminds me of the Norse myth in which a young girl with long tresses sees her reflection in a lake and is so entranced by it that she cannot tear herself away. She never leaves. The god who cast the spell turns her into a plant, and she remains there forever.
